The Philippines is home to over 7,000 islands. Although Manila is one of the most densely populated cities in the world, with every modern amenity, only a few hours away on nearby islands, much of the population lives in extreme poverty.

Many people in these remote areas work as day laborers in agriculture, making only a few dollars a day. In Mindoro, many of the fathers of children in our program work in the rice fields, doing backbreaking work planting and carrying heavy bags of rice. Mindoro is perfect for growing rice because it rains often, but when it is raining, the men are often not able to work. These remote areas are also hit by many natural disasters, including typhoons.

PROJECT

Hope 4 Kids International serves two communities in the Philippines: Marikina, a poor suburb of Manila, and Victoria, on the island of Mindoro, located south of Manila. We travel south by ferry to reach Mindoro Island. Our ministry partner has been serving the poor in the Philippines for over 40 years, primarily in Marikina, but upon his retirement he wanted to return to his ancestral home of Victoria, Mindoro. This community is home to many agricultural workers and single mothers. Preschool is out of reach for many families, so our partner had the idea to open a preschool, to give the poor children in the community the chance to start school with more of the advantages that wealthier families can afford. This preschool also gives mothers the opportunity to work during the day. We are so blessed to partner with this community to give the children of Mindoro a chance to escape poverty.

On this trip we offer medical outreaches and construction opportunities. We also have the opportunity to serve the local indigenous population, the Mangyan tribe, with a medical outreach.
